REFERENCE RECORD 010

ARCHIVE CROSS SECTION

Journey 1 archive cross section showing the pyramid cover, internal archive vessel, human tooth, and archive vessel base

The Journey 1 preservation system combines a four-sided pyramid cover, an archival base, and an internal tooth-form vessel. The assembly forms the material repository for records selected for long-term preservation.

REFERENCE RECORD 013

TRANSMISSION ACCESSION PROTOCOL

Journey 1 accession workflow showing capture, review, Archive ID assignment, metadata cataloging, DNA encoding, and repository storage

Records are reviewed, assigned an Archive ID, cataloged with descriptive metadata, and prepared for long-term preservation. Selected digital files may then be encoded in synthetic DNA and placed within the Journey 1 repository.

REFERENCE RECORD 011

DNA ENCODING WORKFLOW

Journey 1 DNA encoding workflow from human testimony through digital recording, binary encoding, synthetic DNA, and long-term preservation

Selected digital records may be translated into binary data and encoded in synthetic DNA. The encoded material is placed within the internal archive vessel for long-term storage.

REFERENCE RECORD 012

AUTOICON FIELD RECORDING STATION

Elevation and plan views of the AutoIcon field recording station

Temporary field stations collect individual accounts of everyday life. Each participant responds independently and receives a unique archive identifier after review and accession.

REFERENCE RECORD 015

THE AUTOICON

Historical reference image of Jeremy Bentham's Auto-Icon

The name AutoIcon refers to Jeremy Bentham's proposal that a preserved human body could continue to function as a public representation. Journey 1 extends that proposition through testimony recorded while each contributor is alive.
